This curtain is handmade in India using the traditional crewel embroidery technique. Traditionally practised in Kashmir, the crewel embroidery is similar to the ari technique, both of which are distinguished by the use of an ari (hook) as the main tool. The thread is held under the fabric and the hook is used to pull the thread up to complete the stitch. In comparison to ari embroidery, crewel embroidery uses a bigger hook and is used to embroider wool onto thicker base fabrics used in curtains and upholstery.
Please note that the length of the curtain Includes the tab tops, which are approximately 10cm.

Our embroidered textiles include cushion covers, curtains and clothing that are made using traditional craft techniques like crewel work, chikankari, applique that are unique to certain parts of India. The craft process results in irregularities in pattern and colour which makes each piece unique, and most people see this as part of the character and individuality of the textiles.

Washing/Cleaning
• Curtains and cushion covers – dry clean only
• Clothing – preferably dry clean only. Embroidery techniques like chikankari mainly used white thread on white fabric. These garments can be hand washed separately. If machine washed, use settings for delicate whites and place garments in a laundry bag. Use a mild non-biological detergent containing no bleach.
• Do not tumble dry or wring dry as this can snap the embroidered threads. Hang the garment to dry. Iron on reverse with the correct settings or use a steam iron.

Usage
• To avoid risk of colour transfer, do not place any of the above items having dark colours on a pale surface or material, particularly where they can become wet.
• Sunlight or harsh detergents will cause fading.
• All items are made from natural materials and are not treated with fire resistant chemicals. Please take care to avoid the risk of fire if putting them on any upholstered furniture.
