Hearth and Home
This exhibition provides an idea of the everyday utensils used to create the complex flavours of Indian cuisine. One that oscillates between sweet, savoury and spicy and culminates in vibrant, colourful dishes that are a feast for all the senses. Many of the items on display, such as the chapati stands and fruit squeezers, are ornately decorated even though they are designed for everyday use. The care taken in the crafting of these objects hints at the importance of cooking as a core part of family and community life. Some items, such as spice boxes, become family heirlooms passed down from generation to generation.
