Journey: 1979
In 1979, Philip and Jeannie Millward travelled to Pakistan, starting in Lahore and criss-crossing the regions of Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly North West Frontier Province). When they set out on their journey, they could not have imagined that it would change their lives, and result in a thriving shop, museum and research centre. This journey was the start of a life-long passion for the arts and crafts of South Asia. Over the next forty years, they continued to make annual trips to Pakistan, India, Thailand, Java and Bali. Using Philip and Jeannie Millward’s photographs and journal entries from 1979, this exhibition tells the story of that first inspiring journey.
